Preventing Death on the Battlefield - Special Operations Medical Capability Development

Special Operations Forces (SOF) are frequently executed on short notice, clandestinely, in remote and hostile locations, and for strategic purposes where risk is assumed because of mission importance. The requirements to provide medical support in this context differ significantly from those required to support conventional operations. This presentation will discuss the unique medical support requirements of SOF applied to different operational environments. The presentation will discuss how the NATO Special Operations Headquarters is working to federate and regionalize SOF medical education and training and develop SOF medical doctrine which will enable NATO and Partner nations to develop interoperable SOF medical support synchronized with conventional medical systems.
