Prof. Jiri Kassa has been a longtime member of a NATO CBRN Med WG (since 1999). Currently he holds a position - Head of delegation of the Czech Republic in above mentioned NATO working group. Since 1993, Prof. Kassa has been working in various positions in the Department of Toxicology and Military Pharmacy, Faculty of Military Health Sciences, University of Defence. He was the head of above mentioned department from 2003 to 2014. Currently, he holds a position of a senior researcher, Prof. Kassa has 30 year experience in research of complex mechanism of acute toxicity of organophosphorus compounds (especially nerve agents) including low level exposure and the development of medical countermeasures for chemical warfare agents, especially the development of prophylactic and therapeutic antidotes against nerve agent exposure. He participated in the development of antidotal means against chemical warfare agents currently used in the Czech Army. He has been a project manager of several research projects dealing with above mentioned topics. Currently he is the principal investigator of the project of Ministry of Defense “Health problems of the weapons of mass destruction”. Prof. Kassa is author or co-author of more than 270 publications in International or Czech Journals (among them 147 publication in Journals with impact factor) and author or co-author of more than 150 presentations (oral platform, poster) in International and Czech scientific conferences and symposiums dealing with the above mentioned topics. Prof. Kassa is a holder of a Award of Rector of University of Defense for research work and publication activity (2004).
