Prof. Leoš Navrátil, M.D., Ph.D. defended his Ph.D. thesis in 1984 and he was appointed to associated professorship in 1997 and to full professorship in 2006. Since 1978 to present day, he has served as a professor of the Institute of Biophysics and Informatics of 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. From 2001 to 2010, he was a member of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. At the time and currently, he served in the position of Vice-Dean for Science and Research, Head of the Department of Radiology and Toxicology and since 2008, he has been a member of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, as the Head of the Department of Health Care Disciplines and Population Protection. In addition, he is a member of 5 scientific boards. The scientific work of Prof. Navrátil is aimed at mechanisms of effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and their possible interactions in protecting inhabitants during extraordinary events. He has been a principal investigator or investigator of over 30 research projects of state planning or projects solved within the scope of grant agencies of the FRVŠ, MŠMT, TA ČR, GA ČR or GA UK. He is a member of the board for Radiobiology of the Postgraduate Study of University of Defense (FVZ UO) in Hradec Kralové, for Biophysics of the Postgraduate Study Branch Biomedicine at Charles University, for Crisis Management of the Faculty of Special Engineering of the University of Žilina, Slovak Republic (FSI ŽU) and Chairman of the Board for Population Protection of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FBMI ČVUT). He is a Chairman of the Society for Radiobiology and Crisis Planning at the J. E. Purkynje Czech Medical Society. He is a member of the scientific committee of the International Academy of Laser Medicine & Surgery (IALMS), European Radiation Research Society (ERRS) and member of editorial boards of four international journals. In his professional work, he is primarily focused on: diagnosing and treating of the effects of radiation sickness, the role of radiobiology in disaster medicine, protection of the population against negative effects of ionizing radiation in relation to its use in medicine and industry, including the use of nuclear energy and non-ionizing forms of radiation in clinical medicine. Results of his work were published in 15 monographs or textbooks. Many scientific works were published in domestic (70) or foreign (80) periodicals. Prof. Navrátil is an Honorable Member of the Radiobiological Society of the J. E. Purkynje Czech Medical Society and an Honorable Member of the Society for the Use of Laser in Medicine of the J. E. Purkynje Czech Medical Society.
